I am delighted to welcome you all to the BSSF as the Vice President for Sport.
Over several years I have been quietly working away with a few like minded mushers towards forming a dedicated organisation to promote and support the sport of sled dog racing for all in the UK. The last couple of years work have now led to us coming together to form the BSSF, a real milestone in the sport for the UK!
In my role I aim to promote sled dog sport and the work of the BSSF for all mushers and sled dog sport athletes in the UK. This is for both domestic UK based competition and in the development of the sport to allow more UK mushers to compete internationally. To help facilitate the access into Europe and farther afield for our teams. The role also aims to develop our young mushers through our youth development program and also promote and represent the pure bred teams in this country.
A life long ambition to own and run my own sled dog team became a reality 14 years ago and I have been owning and running sled dogs ever since. In that time I have competed in both dryland rig, on sled, bikejor and scooter. We currently own 11 dogs, 10 Siberians, 1 malamute.
Part of my passion is organising competition. I have organised 18 races over the past 13 years through ABSA but also by founding 'Wyedean Mushing'. Through Wyedean Mushing we have held races for 13 years and hold 5 - 7 sled dog events during the season and several canicross races, in fact we held the first ever canicross and bike/scoot-jor race in the UK and have allowed Open class dogs to race in WM events for the past 5 years.
One of my other roles away from the BSSF is in managing the sled dog training permits for the West of England region on behalf of the Forestry Commission and working alongside them as a sled dog liason between the sled dog community, the Forestry Commission and the general public.
I am also a qualified IFSS International Race Judge and aspire to become an IFSS Race Marshal.
My experience in elite international level sport goes further. I have been a qualified UIAA international level competition judge with the British Mountaineering Council, worked and coached on their competition, performance coaching and youth panels in the past and have judged at many World Cup, World Championships, European Youth Cup, British Championships and local level competitions. I have coached in Adventure racing and have competed personally away from sled dog racing at high levels in Climbing, Kayak white water racing and surfing. I work in the outdoor industry coaching rock and adventure sports.
You could say i am a little bit competitive and love the outdoors!
Please feel free to email me or come and have a chat at any of the many events we attend with any ideas, views or assistance you may require.
Happy trails and here's to the future!
